Hook Home Help helps with a transformational haircut
Recently Hook Home Help has helped someone to have their first haircut in a year. This was partly due to a long stay in hospital and then all the appointments and busyness that follow that sort of thing. It was also partly due to the stress and anxiety that can come with going somewhere new and finding a new hairdresser when the person who you have gone to for many years has retired or moved away. Many of us have been here at some point but it is more difficult to manage when you are living with increased levels of anxiety to start with.
I have supported more than one client with their hair. I know one lovely girl who will come to your house, which makes things easier for many people. This lady didn’t feel that was right for her so I took her to see the lovely Michelle Cox who is now working from a studio in her garden in Basingstoke. This environment ensured that it would be a calm and quiet atmosphere. Many salons are busy and noisy with pop music playing and hair dryers blowing and many people chatting at the same time, which makes it an overwhelming experience for some. We needed somewhere very quiet and calm to help her manage her anxiety around going somewhere new and meeting someone new.
The conversations around getting a haircut started many weeks ago and she has had various options and time to think it through at her own pace. We made the appointment when she was sure that she was ready and I talked her through how it would be.
I knew that Michelle would be calm and quiet but I was still very touched at how gentle and kind she was. How she took a bit of hair off at a time to make sure it wasn’t a shock. And how she waited patiently for my lady to find the right words and make the decisions about her fringe. She gave her all the time in the world and made her feel like a princess.
She put on serums and sprays and blow dried it to perfection. My lady was over the moon in the end. She was delighted with her new hair, she was proud of herself for getting there and managing it and now feels able to come back.
I drove her slowly and carefully home and left her feeling happy and far more like her old self.
I have known Michelle for years and I knew we were in safe hands but my heart felt warmed by the gentle care that she showed to this little lady who she had never met before.
Every week brings a new challenge and a new experience but this was one that made all three of us a little bit happier and brought us a little bit closer.
