Hook Home Help helps to make a birthday special

Today Hook Home Help helped to make someone's birthday a bit more special than usual. Someone who is housebound and isolated. I organised a visit from an old friend and we had tea and homemade cake with candles. When someone phoned she told them she couldn't chat because she was having a birthday party.

As she had tea and cake with her visitor I did all the usual jobs of emptying the dishwasher getting clothes in and out of the tumble drier and put away. I brought my son along to make up the numbers and to help tidy up the garden. He harvested rhubarb, cut down brambles, weeded the paving slabs, cleaned outdoor furniture, weeded beds and prepared pots for planting.

By the end of the day she had has some company and we had got on top of the house and garden. We left her with cards and cake and flowers in every vase. She wrote to me later on to say how truly grateful she was, and we were grateful to have been able to make a special day for a special lady
