A trip to the garden centre

Today I took someone to a garden centre. Post hip replacement, walking with two crutches makes a lot of things harder. We stopped off to deliver a letter which involved walking on some uneven ground and some steps, so I did that for her, and then went off to the garden centre to research plants for the garden. The sun was shining and the sky was blue and it was a great day to be out. She wouldn't have had the confidence to get out on the crutches without some company.

It turns out that even taking photos of plants is tricky when trying to keep hold of two crutches! So after some trial and error, I took the photos and carried plants while she hung on to the crutches. After a good walk around the plants, I carefully drove the plants, the crutches and their owner home. She was delighted to have got out to the garden centre and had a walk in the sunshine with some support and some help bringing some new plants home.

She said, "I hope you don't mind coming driving all the way here and having the plants in your car?". I assured her that that is exactly what I like to do, to feel useful and to know that she feels better for getting out and about, and having some exercise, practising her walking and having some company for all of it. Even better to have some new flowers to remind us of the trip out.
